Stanfield, Gary G.; Heffernan, William D. – 1972
The major objective of this research is to isolate factors associated with the socialization of members of a voluntary organization. Moore, Bert S.; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1973
Results of this experiment demonstrate that brief, even fleeting, affective experiences appear to have significant implications for behavior toward others. The transient experience of positive affect makes children more generous to others, while the equally ephemeral experience of negative affect appears to make them more niggardly. (Authors)

Allen, Mary Kathleen; Liebert, Robert M. – J Personality Soc Psychol, 1969
Hypothesizes that children's behavior will be more greatly affected by a live deviant model than by information about deviant behavior, and that if both models are presented, the effect will be additive. Results supported the hypotheses. Bibliography, tables, and graph. (JB)

Prusak, Keven A.; Vincent, Susan D.; Pangrazi, Robert P. – Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (JOPERD), 2005
When young teachers stand in front of their classes for the first time, they are expected to be well prepared for the challenging task before them. Unfortunately, preparations for this moment rarely include lessons on the essential skill of "teacher talk"--the choice and use of words in a class. This skill is often overlooked in teacher…

Steblay, Nancy Mehrkens – 1984
Although the behavioral element of the Type A pattern has been identified, the cognitive component of the complex is less well understood. To examine the relationships of self-focused attention, standards for performance, and performance evaluation to Type A behavior, 72 undergraduates were studied. Subjects were classified as Type A (N=36) or…

Notz, William W. – American Psychologist, 1975
Summarizes and discusses findings on two hypotheses predicting interaction between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation: extrinsic rewards are those which provide satisfaction independent of the actual activity itself and are controlled by someone other than the employee, whereas intrinsic rewards are those over which the employee has a high degree…

Moreland, Richard; Ruback, Barry – 1980
Like other large organizations, universities often face the problem of distributing scarce resources among individuals. One such resource is university housing space. Students' reactions to a dormitory lottery in which each student had an equal chance of obtaining a room were studied. The lottery seemed fairest to students who shared the…

DeLamarter, William A.; Krepps, Patrice E. – 1980
Intrinsic motivation and self-reinforcement can be used identically to explain behavioral persistence in the absence of external reward. Yet the relationship between these concepts has not been adequately explored. Since intrinsic motivation appears to be dependent on an interesting task and self-reinforcement independent of task, it was…

Schayer, Laurel L.; Schroeder, Harold E. – 1974
Continuous self-monitoring (CSM) was compared with a demand characteristics control condition (non self-monitoring), with intermittent self-monitoring (ISM) and with another control condition. It was predicted that both self-monitoring conditions would produce effects over and above the demand characteristics inherent in the self-monitoring…

Smith, Carl R., Ed. – Iowa Perspective, 1979
The issue presents two articles on emotionally disabled children. The first, "Self-Control Strategies for Emotionally Disabled Students" by Landis Fick, offers some alternatives to traditional externally managed behavior modification techniques, and defines the teacher's role in a program oriented toward developing self control. The…

Coopersmith, Stanley – 1969
The research of this author indicates that the development of high self-esteem (defined as the good-bad dimension of self-concept) is associated with (1) acceptance, (2) clearly defined limits and moderately high goals, and (3) respectful treatment. Such factors as status, income, and education are only related to high self-esteem if they are a…

Larson, Charles C. – Journal of School Psychology, 1976

The therapist assumed that the behavioral pattern of the paranoid personality is characterized by an overdependence upon environmental reinforcers and therefore used the self-management…
