A method of testing semantic differential scales for bipolarity is developed using a new conception of bipolarity that does not require unidimensionality. Assessment of Fielder's Least Preferred Coworker instrument with 63 college student subjects using multidimensional scaling revealed its significant departures from bipolarity. (SLD)

Eighteen bipolar adjective pairs that are used in Fielder's Least Preferred (LPC) coworker instrument were examined using 2 scaling techniques with a sample of 113 respondents. Two studies were conducted, using 131 business administration majors (53 males and 78 females), to examine the psychological midpoints of the 18 bipolar adjective pairs of Fiedler's Least Preferred Coworker (LPC) instrument. Six of the LPC adjective pairs were found to deviate significantly from true bipolarity. (SLD)
