GROSS, HERBERT S.; JOHNSON, RAYMOND L.
THE SEMANTIC ANALYSIS OF DELUSIONAL CONCEPTS IN THE INTERVIEW LANGUAGE OF PSYCHOTIC PATIENT IS DESCRIBED. THE TECHNIQUE IS BASED ON THE SEMANTIC DIFFERENTIAL DEVISED BY OSGOOD, SUCI, AND TANNENBAUM. COMPUTATIONAL PROCEDURES ARE USED FOR THE DETECTION OF CLUSTERS OF KEYWORDS. THESE CLUSTERS PROVIDE A "NATURAL" CLASSIFICATION OF PEOPLE AND…

Halliday, Gordon W. – Journal of Drug Education, 1976
The hypothesis that drug attitude effects of drug education would vary as a function of the valences of the facts learned was tested. Undergraduates (N=48) interacted with a computer to request and receive pseudo-facts about a bogus drug. As predicted, students who received all positive facts evaluated the drug more favorably. (Author)

Kennedy, John K., Jr.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test Fiedler's contingency model of leader effectiveness, which characterizes leaders as either task-oriented or motivated by successful interpersonal relations. Results using undergraduate students had negative implications for the validity of the model and the Least Preferred Coworker Scale. (GDC)

Burns, Robert – Educational Studies, 1976
Lack of awareness of the concept-scale interaction problem frequently causes misuse of the semantic differential technique by educational researchers. Evidence is presented to demonstrate the interaction, and a simple method of mitigating the problem is suggested. (Author/AV)
Descriptors: Concept Formation, Educational Research, Evaluation, Factor Analysis

Baum, Dale D. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1974
To determine equivalence of problem perception over audio, video, and transcript media, 10 interview segments were presented to subjects to rate under two conditions. Semantic differential showed differences between emotional and educational/vocational problems. Audio and video media were equivalent while transcripts evoked more devalued…

Bynner, John; Romney, David – British Journal of Psychology, 1972
Data collected in a study of hospital staff attitudes to drug addicts and other types of patients are used to illustrate the problem of concept-scale interaction in semantic differential research. (Authors)

Ornstein, Peter A.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
Major purpose of the experiments was to use an instrumental response to study the form of semantic generalization gradients obtained following single-cue and discrimination training procedures. (Authors)

Thompson, Bruce; Stapleton, James C. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1979
This paper presents a method which can be used to obtain evidence that the concepts rated on semantic differential scales are appropriate for given study. An analysis of six semantic differential concepts, as perceived by 168 graduate education students, is presented; variations of the method are discussed. (Author/GSK)

Morland, J. Kenneth; Suthers, Ellen – Phylon, 1980
Reports on a 1972 study of nursery school children's racial attitudes compared with those of older children. Children were tested with a semantic differential questionnaire and a social distance scale and were compared across age and race. Concludes that the norm for racial attitudes is a bias for one's own race. (MK)
