Landrum, R. Eric; Meliska, Charles J. – 1985
Some research on the stimulant effect of caffeine suggests that the amount of behavioral enhancement produced by caffeine may depend on subjects' prior experience with the task and the drug. A study was undertaken to test whether prior experience with a task while under the influence of caffeine would facilitate performance of that task. Male…

Engle, Randall W.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1981
To examine developmental aspects of auditory sensory memory, a series of experiments was conducted on the stimulus suffix effect with the primary variables being age of subject (7 and 11 years), rates of presentation, and length of list. Effects were nearly identical across age groups when a fast presentation rate was used. (Author/DB)

Torgesen, Joseph K. – Reading Research Quarterly, 1978
Reviews psychometric and experimental studies of performance differences on serial memory tasks between skilled and less skilled readers. Offers basic criticisms of the psychometric approach and discusses the experimental research within the context of a general model of short term memory. (AA)

Milligan, W. L.; And Others – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1981
Younger (age 20-35) veterans showed better performance on learning and psychomotor tasks than did older (age 55-70) veterans. Positive attitudes toward aging, and greater life satisfaction were associated with better performance on the behavioral tasks in the older group. Results suggest age-related behavior may be related to psychosocial…

Gulya, Michele; Sweeney, Becky; Rovee-Collier, Carolyn – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1999
Three experiments demonstrated that increasing the length of a mobile serial list impaired 6-month olds' memory for serial order. Findings indicated that the primacy effect was absent on a 24-hour delayed recognition test and was exhibited on a reactivation test, adding to growing evidence that young infants possess two functionally distinct…

Humes, Larry E.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1993
This study, involving 24 young and elderly normal-hearing adults, addressed the effects of aging on auditory serial-recall performance for natural and synthetic words. Serial recall of monosyllabic words was not affected by age per se or by rate of presentation, but word difficulty affected recall for both groups. (Author/JDD)
