Cummings, E. Mark; And Others – Child Development, 1989
Investigates the representative frequencies of aggression of 43 children at the ages of 2 and 5 years. Dimensions of physical aggression at age 2 predicted dimensions of physical aggression at age 5. Frequency, initiations, and average length of aggression decreased between 2 and 5 years of age. (RJC)

Birch, Leann Lipps; Billman, Jane – Child Development, 1986
Investigates 57 three- to five-year-old children's sharing of preferred and nonpreferred food with same-sex peers as a function of (1) whether or not the children had previous experience as recipients and (2) whether or not the child was shared with during the experience as a recipient. (HOD)

Fagot, Beverly I. – Child Development, 1978
Toddler children and their parents were observed in their homes using an observation checklist. Parent behaviors were categorized as positive, negative, or neutral, and parental reactions to specific child behaviors were examined to determine if the sex of the child or the actual behavior influenced the type of parental reaction. (Author/JMB)
Descriptors: Behavior Patterns, Infants, Observation, Parent Attitudes

Descriptors: Adults, Behavior Patterns, Infants, Interaction Process Analysis

Sroufe, L. Alan; And Others – Child Development, 1985
A concept of seductive mother-toddler relationships was initially validated. Subsequent research showed "seductiveness" was stable, though transformed, from 24 to 42 months; the same mothers were not found to be seductive with male or female siblings; mothers seductive with boys were derisively hostile toward daughters. (Author/RH)
Descriptors: Behavior Patterns, Child Rearing, Family Problems, Mothers

Levy-Shiff, Rachel – Child Development, 1982
Effects of father absence on boys and girls who live in families headed by mothers were studied. Subjects were 40 Israeli children (ages 2.6 to 2.10 years of age) whose fathers had died before their birth. Strong differential effects were found in the responses of girls as compared with those of boys. (Author/MP)

Rheingold, Harriet L.; Cook, Kaye V. – Child Development, 1975
The furnishings and toys of boys' and girls' rooms were canvassed on the assumption that differences, if found, would indicate parental ideas about sex-appropriateness. The children were 48 boys and 48 girls under 6 years of age; each child had his own room. (Author/CS)

Eaton, Warren O.; Yu, Alice Piklai – Child Development, 1989

Four features of early adolescent friendship have received the greatest attention in the literature: intimacy of conversations, friends' responsiveness to each other's needs and desires, the degree of similarity or complementarity between friends, and the stability of friendships over time. Braungart-Rieker, Julia M.; Stifter, Cynthia A. – Child Development, 1996
Examined continuity, stability, and change in behaviors reflecting infant reactivity and regulation. Subjects were 100 infants of 5 and 10 months old.
