Immerman, Michael – 1983
An investigation of the relationship between the locus of control construct and the tribe, sex, and first language of two groups of southwestern American Indian adults (85 Navajo and 50 Pueblo subjects), as measured by the Rotter Internal-External Control Scale, confirmed the prediction that the groups would exhibit similar characteristics for the…

Kapalka, George M.; Lachenmeyer, Juliana Rasic – Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, 1988
Examination of 69 men and women revealed that individuals employed in supervisory leadership positions were more androgynous and obtained more internal locus of control scores than those in nonsupervisory positions. Sex differences were noted. Implications are discussed. (Author/BJV)

Martin, Sue; Cowles, Milly – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1983
The Stephens-Delys Reinforcement Contingency Interview was administered to 78 subjects, 6.5 years to 7.5 years, who were enrolled in "traditional" or "open" educational programs. Scores are categorized by sex, race, economic level, and educational program, and treated by analysis of variance. (Author/PN)

Bernhard, Judith K.; Siegel, Linda S. – Computers in the Schools, 1994
Discussion of locus of control (LOC), gender, and mathematics and technical subjects focuses on a study of preschool girls and boys that investigated the effects of a LOGO program on efficacy and LOC. Highlights include treatment of experimental and control groups; gender differences; parent questionnaires; and pretests and posttests. (69…

Bohlin, Roy M. – 1992
This investigation of the relationship of computer anxiety reduction to instructional strategies and learner characteristics used multiple repeated measures in a 2x2x2 quasi experimental design with arousal-seeking tendency, coping style, sex, computer skill mastery, and locus of control as the independent variables. Discrete dependent variables…

Wildstein, Arlene B.; And Others – 1982
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there are differences between males and females on locus of control, if experimental instructions differentially affect the performance of internals as opposed to externals, and if locus of control differentially influences performance on distinct types of aptitude tests. The Children's…

Fick, Ana Correa; Thomas, Sarah Moody – 1989
This study investigated the relationship between locus of control orientation and adoption of cigarette smoking among ninth grade urban black Southern students. It sought to identify this relationship and determine if school-setting (junior or senior high school) or gender-related differences exist. The following information was used to assess…

Lopez, Cecilia L.; Harper, Maria – Educational Technology, Research and Development, 1989
Describes study that investigated achievement and motivation effects related to locus of control and learner control on seventh and eighth grade Hispanic students completing a computer-assisted instruction (CAI) science lesson. Use of the Intellectual Achievement Responsibility scale is discussed, and a questionnaire that assessed student…

Clariana, Roy B. – Journal of Computer-Based Instruction, 1993
Describes a study of at-risk high school students that investigated the motivational and instructional effects of advisement in computer-based instruction on learners of varying ability and locus of control orientations. Session attendance and achievement on tests are examined, and interaction between advisement and gender is discussed. (Contains…

McLaughlin, Susan C.; Saccuzzo, Dennis P. – 1994
The effects of ethnicity, gender, and risk on locus of control were investigated for gifted children and for high ability nongifted children. Subjects (n=805) in grades 5 through 7 were African-American, Caucasian, Latino/Hispanic, or Fillipino and had been referred for evaluation of giftedness, which included evaluation of intellectual ability…
