Aesthetic, economic, social, political, religious, and theoretical values of 120 Black and White elementary school students were examined. Responses from 125 Black and 130 White children identified three subdimensions (personality characteristics, affective relations, physical abilities) in an index measuring children's perceptions of aging. Black children as a whole had higher rates of homicide deaths than White children, but the difference fades when socioeconomic status is taken into consideration, especially for older children. Administered three self-concept instruments to 374 students in grades 7, 9, and 11. By using total scores as well as subscale scores, indications were obtained of global self-concept as well as perceptions of various dimensions of self.
