Schmidt, Gary R. – 1988
The relationship between self-monitoring and boundary spanning was investigated in this study. In an attempt to isolate the behaviors used by self-monitors to facilitate performance in a boundary spanning role, a laboratory setting was used to videotape subjects assuming a contrived boundary spanning role. Subjects (N=234) were introductory…

Bunker, Barbara B.; And Others – 1984
Although the belief that women are not socialized to be competitive is widely held, research findings in this area are not conclusive. To compare the behaviors and the perceptions of behavior in men and women in a realistic setting, 180 students participated in a 2-hour, two-part simulated job interview that required either competitive or neutral…

Snodgrass, Sara E.; Stoliker, Howard – 1990
Previous research has indicated that women tend to relinquish leadership, or dominance, to men in mixed-sex interactions, even when the woman has a more dominant personality trait or when she is assigned to be the leader. This study was designed to determine effects of perceived intelligence in dominance, particularly if women who thought they…

Fleming, James S.; And Others – 1985
Much of the sex role research published in the late seventies was concerned with measuring masculinity and femininity, based on stereotyped trait ratings using tests like the Bem Sex Role Inventory or the Personal Attributes Questionnaire. In response to the need for a wider variety of measures, the Activities Inventory (AI), a checklist of…

Tests the utility of two models for explaining contraceptive use by sexually active women (N=391). Gano, Lori – 1992
Theories about helping behavior have branched into two basic areas: egoistic and altruistic. Egoistic theories describe helping as being induced by sadness or distress; the Empathy-Altruism hypothesis contends that people help when they feel empathy for another in need. Fultz, Schaller, and Cialdini (1988) looked at the possibility that three…

Null, Eldon J.; Walter, James E. – College Student Journal, 1972
Study data indicated that only a few values are related to ratings by students of one or more dimensions of instructor behavior, but that sex and grade expected in the course are main effects on the evaluation of several of these behavioral characteristics. It was concluded that values of students in general are quite independent of their ratings…

Kaats, Gilbert R.; Davis, Keith E. – J Marriage Fam, 1970
In spite of their relatively liberal sexual behavior, considerable evidence was found among men and women alike for the existence of a strong double standard. Males felt their friends approved of premarital intercourse. Females' liberal behavior occurred in a setting where she perceived little support for such behavior. (Author)

Spiritas, Alexis A.; Holmes, David S. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1971
The present results indicate that models can facilitate good interview behavior. The models significantly affected the duration and the degree of revealingness of interview responses. Across modeling conditions subjects talked longer to the female interviewer but were not more revealing than they were with the male interviewer. (Author)

McCormick, Naomi B. – Psychology of Women Quarterly, 1979
Male and female unmarried college students participated in a questionnaire study of actual and expected male-female differences in the use of strategies for having and avoiding sexual intercourse. Findings suggest that when men and women share the same goals, expected differences between male and female influencing agents disappear. (Author)
