Yanico, Barbara J.; Hardin, Susan I. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1986

Perry, David G.; And Others – Child Development, 1984
When two-, three-, four-, and five-year-olds were tested for knowledge of sex role stereotypes and preferences for sex-typed activities, boys' stereotype acquisition lagged behind preference development. Girls' data were ambiguous. Boys displayed equally strong tendencies to endorse same-sex activities; girls displayed a stronger tendency to…

Scott, Judith; Brantley, John C. – Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, 1983
Teachers' questionnaire responses were used in developing an instrument designed to measure teachers' knowledge and attitudes concerning sex role stereotyping, and to explore relationships between knowledge and attitudes on sex differences. Results suggested that knowledge of sex differences does not ensure nonsexist attitudes. (Author/MJL)

The development of sex stereotype knowledge (SSK) was studied using 120, 120, and 204 Portuguese children aged 5, 8, and 11 years, respectively. SSK increased with age and socioeconomic status. Results are compared with findings from Brazil, Latin America, and a 24-country study by D. Best and others (1977). (SLD)

Horn, Stacey S. – Developmental Psychology, 2003
This study surveyed ninth- and eleventh-graders' evaluations of social exclusion based on social group membership. Responses indicated that participants found exclusion less wrong than denying resources, and used fewer moral and more conventional reasons to justify judgments. Participants relied on their group knowledge or stereotypes in…

Ziegler, Albert; Heller, Kurt A. – Journal of Secondary Gifted Education, 2000
Students (N=379) in the 8th grade of German college preparatory schools, prior to formal chemistry instruction, were evaluated for prior knowledge of chemistry, their self-concept regarding chemistry, their gender-bound attitudes toward chemistry, and their fear of chemistry. Findings indicated that girls already expressed significantly lower…

Lambert, Vicki; Rohland, Grace – 1983
The purpose of this study was to gauge the need for teaching preservice teachers about sex stereotyping and to determine whether a general or specific teaching approach would be more effective. The sample consisted of 50 students from two sections of a core teacher-training course at the University of Utah. Information about stereotyping was…
