Segal, Ronald; O'Neal, Beverly – EDUCOM Bulletin, 1978
A national computer services network simulation model was used in a 3-day gaming exercise involving 16 institutional teams who made decisions about their likely long-term network participation. Participants were able to react to others' decisions and actions, and to critical overriding political, economical, and organizational issues. (CMV)

Cohen, Richard B.; Bradley, Robert H. – Alberta Journal of Educational Research, 1977
The effectiveness of simulation games as a method for teaching superordinate concepts was tested via a week-long experiment involving 183 fifth and sixth-grade students in the development of map skills. The simulation group demonstrated superior performance on the delayed posttest but not on the immediate posttest. (JC)

Kryukov, M. M.; Kryukova, L. I. – Simulation and Games, 1986
Describes the basis for a simulation game classification based on the game image, which is created against a foundation of events that occur during the course of the game. Three characteristics of the game image--reflection of reality, dialog, and motivation--are defined, and game dialog types are discussed in detail. (MBR)

Parkinson, Robert; Reid, Ian – Journal of Geography in Higher Education, 1987
Describes a two-dimensional sand-tank model that illustrates the influence of ground slope on tile drain discharge and the movement of groundwater in general. The model can be used to demonstrate the effect of topography on sub-surface water movement in agricultural catchments, thus it is a useful hydrological teaching aid. (Author/BSR)

Jones, Ken – Simulation/Games for Learning, 1986
Wittgenstein's view about communicating meanings forms the basis for an examination of the Society for the Advancement of Games and Simulations in Education and Training's (SAGSET) definitions of games, simulations, and simulation games. The question of whether usage can be made consistent to ease communication with SAGSET nonmembers is addressed.…
