A new approach to the assessment of physicians' performance in practice using undetected standardized (simulated) patients is discussed. Evaluations from 77 personnel administrators were used to determine the effect of costume on interviewers' perceptions of personal characteristics for women applying for management-level positions. Research on using computers in teaching economics in Great Britain has led to the conclusion that they are most useful for simulating complex systems and providing the means to analyze data and not so useful for providing feedback on learning. A nationwide competition for secondary students is also discussed. (IS)

This article describes a set of Preactive Decision Exercises (PreDEx) that can be used to evaluate teachers' planning abilities. The exercises present, through simulations, typical situations in which teachers must make planning decisions. The exercises were given to students entering a preservice teacher education program.
