Crockett, Walter H.; And Others – Journal of Gerontology, 1979
Subjects read interviews in which either a 36-year-old or a 76-year-old widow talked about her life. They then rated their attitudes. Results show the perceivers viewed specific older persons as exceptions, while retaining negative stereotypes of the elderly in general. Theoretical expectations differed from results. (Author/BEF)

Weinberg, Nancy – Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, 1978
People perceive the disabled as quite different from the ablebodied in personality characteristics and attitudes. Present research examined whether these perceptions are affected by contact with the disabled. Results suggest that only when very extensive and intimate contact occurs are disabled seen as fairly similar to the ablebodied. (Author)

Figliulo, Mary C.; And Others – Journal of Homosexuality, 1978
Examines the relationship of departures from the feminine stereotype for women and the masculine stereotype for men to the abridgment of civil liberties. Results show there was more conformity than departure from social sex-role stereotypes and there were proportionately more violations of the right of equality for those who departed. (Author)

A sex-role stereotype questionnaire was administered to 67 females who were either (a) consistent users of contraceptives, (b) inconsistent users, (c) nonusers, or (d) virgins. An exhaustive survey of children's first literature (juvenile picture books and easy readers) determined the extent of age stereotyping--ageism--in roles, behaviors, and descriptions of older characters. Seefeldt, Carol; And Others – Educational Gerontology, 1977
The CATE (Children's Attitudes Toward the Elderly) was administered to 180 children, 20 at each level from age three to age 11. Results suggest that children at all age levels have limited knowledge of and contact with older people. Children's concepts of age increase in accuracy with increases in age. (Author)
