Sex differences in specialty choices, specialty beliefs, and personality characteristics of female and male medical students were analyzed. Two successive classes of entering medical students at the University of Colorado indicated specialty choices and their degree of certainty about them in the freshman, sophomore, and senior years. Nearly three-fourths switched specialties between freshman and senior years. Results are analyzed with respect to individual specialty areas. (Editor/JT)
