Wen-Juan Liu; Xiao-He Yu; Li-Ying Hao; Yu-Feng Wang; Jiu-Ju Wang – Annals of Dyslexia, 2025
Excessive crowding in the visual periphery has been demonstrated in children with developmental dyslexia (DD). However, less is known about crowding in the fovea, even though foveal crowding is at least equally important, as reading is mostly accomplished through foveal vision. Here we used a special set of digit stimuli (Pelli fonts) to measure…

Jackson, Mark D.; McClelland, James L. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1975
Fast and average readers were tested on four tasks. Fast readers appear to pick up more information per fixation on structured textual material, and had a greater span of apprehension for unrelated elements. Results disagree with the view that reading speed depends solely on ability to infer missing information. (CHK)

Mattern, Patrick Michael – 1972
The purpose of this investigation was to identify the superior method of accelerating reading rate without the use of mechanical assists. Carver, Ronald P. – 1977
This is the final report on a research project that measured the effect of reading rate on accuracy and the efficiency of reading comprehension. At the outset of the project, existing research data were integrated into a comprehensive account called a "rauding theory," which interrelates reading ability, passage difficulty, reading time,…

Sandberg, Karl C. – 1976
The word-identification approach has long been the basis for teaching reading in both native and second languages. Recent work has a new approach, particularly that of Frank Smith, who developed a feature analysis model of reading. As we can identify letters in different configurations or before all the strokes are completed, so can we identify…
