Forster, K. I.; Dickinson, R. G. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1976
The properties of four different tests of the treatment effect in experiments using linguistic materials are examined. (Author/RM)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Error Patterns, Experiments, Language Research
Clark, Herbert H. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1973
Research supported by a grant from the Public Health Service, National Institute of Mental Health. (DD)
Descriptors: Bibliographies, Diagrams, Error Patterns, Language Research
Hubert, Lawrence J.; Levin, Joel R. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1976
A statistical framework is suggested for comparing a single partition of an object set to a second partition posited a priori or possibly to a more general proximity matrix. (Author/RM)
Descriptors: Evaluation Methods, Language Research, Measurement Techniques, Research Methodology
Clark, Herbert H.; And Others – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1976
Four views of the article by Wike and Church in this issue. (RM)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Data Analysis, Language, Language Research
Wike, Edward L.; Church, James D. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1976
Clark's arguments for treating language materials as random rather than fixed effects are examined, and the problems with random effects designs and approximate statistical tests (quasi F-ratios) are reviewed. It is suggested that researchers use fixed factors. (Author/RM)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Data Analysis, Language, Language Research
Smith, J. E. Keith – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1976
Reasons for transforming dependent variable measures for use in analysis of variance is discussed, including nonnormality, heteroscedasticity and scale-induced interactions. It is pointed out that nonlinear transformations change the interpretation of interactions, and a method for reducing heteroscedasticity is described. (Author/RM)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Correlation, Data Analysis, Research Methodology
Bentler, P. M.; LaVoie, Allan L. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1972
