Reasons for transforming dependent variable measures for use in analysis of variance is discussed, including nonnormality, heteroscedasticity and scale-induced interactions. It is pointed out that nonlinear transformations change the interpretation of interactions, and a method for reducing heteroscedasticity is described. (Author/RM)

Hollingsworth recently showed a posttest contrast for analysis of variance situations that, for equal sample sizes, had several favorable qualities. To examine the ability of the correction factor epsilon to counteract statistical bias in univariate analysis, an analysis of variance (adjusted by epsilon) and a multivariate analysis of variance were performed on the same data.
