Krus, David J.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
Description of a computer program performing rotated canonical variate analysis was presented. The program is compatible with the IBM Scientific Subroutines Package. Examples of rotated and unrotated solutions of a sample problem were given, together with their interpretations illustrating the advantages of the rotated solution. (Author)

Dong, Hei-Ki; Thomasson, Gary L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
The triangular decomposition method is suggested as a general technique for obtaining the various measures of an ill-conditioned matrix. The advantages of using triangular decomposition are computing nicety, cost, and parsimony. (Author/PN)

de Leeuw, Jan – Psychometrika, 1982
Recent work (EJ 208 813) showing that generalized eigenvalue problems in which both matrices are singular can be solved by reducing them to similar problems of smaller order is discussed. Possible extensions of the work are indicated. (Author/JKS)

Thompson, Bruce – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1991
Explains basic logic of canonical analysis, illustrates that canonical analysis is general parametric analytic method subsuming other methods, and offers guidelines regarding use of this analytic approach. Concludes that canonical analysis is potent because it does not require researcher to discard variance of any variables and because it honors…

Thomas, D. Roland; Decady, Yves J. – International Journal of Testing, 2004
This article discusses approximate tests of marginal association in 2-way tables in which one or both response variables admit multiple responses. Although multiple-response questions appear in all fields of research, including sociology, education, and marketing, the development of association tests that can be used with multiple-response data is…

Mestry, Raj; Hendricks, Ilona; Bisschoff, Tom – South African Journal of Education, 2009
Evidence in literature indicates that Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of teachers is essential in creating effective schools. Since 2001 the implementation of education legislation and policies has progressively shifted the new agenda within a transformation framework aimed at reconstructing the education system to the fore. The many…

Rosenthal, James A. – Springer, 2011
Written by a social worker for social work students, this is a nuts and bolts guide to statistics that presents complex calculations and concepts in clear, easy-to-understand language. It includes numerous examples, data sets, and issues that students will encounter in social work practice. The first section introduces basic concepts and terms to…

Hall, Rogers; Wright, Ken; Wieckert, Karen – Mind, Culture, and Activity, 2007
In this article, we analyze interactive processes through which research groups and their statistical advisors insert new (for researchers) statistical concepts into existing research practice. Through processes of talk-in-interaction (speaking, gesture, and inscription), they assemble specimens, research workers, devices, algorithms, and texts,…

Johnson, Shirley; Busch, Steve; Slate, John R. – International Journal of Educational Leadership Preparation, 2008
In this study, the reasons why men and women behave differently in leadership roles in schools were investigated because of recent research on the indirect nature of the school principal's impact on learning and on gender differences in leadership behaviors. Practicing principals (109 males, 172 females) from two Southwestern states were surveyed…

Fish, Angela M.; Li, Xiaoming; McCarrick, Katy; Butler, Sheretta T.; Stanton, Bonita; Brumitt, Gail A.; Bhavnagri, Navaz Peshotan; Holtrop, Teresa; Partridge, Ty – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 2008
This study investigates the association between home computer experience and cognitive development among preschool children in inner-city Head Start programs. Approximately 200 children enrolled in four Head Start centers in Detroit, Michigan were recruited to participate in this study. Data was collected from parents regarding the children's…

van den Wollenberg, Arnold L. – Psychometrika, 1977
A component method is presented for maximizing estimates of a statistical procedure called redundancy analysis. Relationships of redundancy analysis to multiple correlation and principal component analysis are pointed out. An elaborate example comparing canonical correlation analysis and redundancy analysis on artificial data is presented.…

Thompson, Bruce; Frankiewicz, Ronald G. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
An overview of several statistics useful in interpreting variates constructed by using canonical correlation analysis is presented. A computer program which calculates coefficients not typically provided by computer packages is discussed. An illustrative example of the output is provided. (Author/JKS)

Goldstein, Harvey; McDonald, Roderick P. – Psychometrika, 1988
A general model is developed for the analysis of multivariate multilevel data structures. Special cases of this model include: repeated measures designs; multiple matrix samples; multilevel latent variable models; multiple time series and variance and covariance component models. (Author)

Miyazaki, Yasuo; Maier, Kimberly S. – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 2005
In hierarchical linear models we often find that group indicator variables at the cluster level are significant predictors for the regression slopes. When this is the case, the average relationship between the outcome and a key independent variable are different from group to group. In these settings, a question such as "what range of the…

Tekwe, Carmen D.; Carter, Randy L.; Ma, Chang-Xing; Algina, James; Lucas, Maurice E.; Roth, Jeffrey; Ariet, Mario; Fisher, Thomas; Resnick, Michael B. – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 2004
Hierarchical Linear Models (HLM) have been used extensively for value-added analysis, adjusting for important student and school-level covariates such as socioeconomic status. A recently proposed alternative, the Layered Mixed Effects Model (LMEM) also analyzes learning gains, but ignores sociodemographic factors. Other features of LMEM, such as…
