Cohen, Arie – Psychology in the Schools, 1973
The intercorrelation matrix of the ITPA subtests drawn from a population of disadvantaged children as presented by Cicirelli, et al. was analyzed by the Guttman-Lingoes SSA-I Program. The results supported two dimensions in the theoretical model suggested by the ITPA developers, the communication channel and the process level. (Author)

Borg, Ingiver; Lingoes, James C. – Psychometrika, 1980
A method for externally constraining certain distances in multidimensional scaling configurations is introduced and illustrated. The method is described in detail and several examples are presented. (Author/JKS)

Viana, Marlos A. G. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1980
Statistical techniques for summarizing results from independent correlational studies are presented. The case in which only the sample correlation coefficients are available and the case in which the original paired data are available are both considered. (Author/JKS)

Miley, Alan D. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
The tendency to extreme scores (TES) can affect sensitive indices, such as Cattell's coefficient of pattern similarity, so that a flat profile will, in general, be found more similar to a standard than will an extreme profile. TES is especially critical when profile matching is used in clinical diagnosis. (Author/BW)

Walker, David A. – NASPA Journal, 2004
Using correct statistical concepts is an important component when conducting quantitative research. Ideas such as power, effect size, and confidence intervals need to be addressed appropriately every time a research study is initiated. The intent of this review of the literature is to reacquaint faculty, practitioners, and graduate students with…

Ratnesar, Nimal; Mackenzie, Jim – Journal of Philosophy of Education, 2006
Conventional discussion of research methodology contrast two approaches, the quantitative and the qualitative, presented as collectively exhaustive. But if qualitative is taken as the understanding of lifeworlds, the two approaches between them cover only a tiny fraction of research methodologies; and the quantitative, taken as the routine…

Schochet, Peter Z. – Mathematica Policy Research, Inc., 2008
Studies that examine the impacts of education interventions on key student, teacher, and school outcomes typically collect data on large samples and on many outcomes. In analyzing these data, researchers typically conduct multiple hypothesis tests to address key impact evaluation questions. Tests are conducted to assess intervention effects for…

Nichols, Shirley J. – ProQuest LLC, 2009
The purpose of this quantitative correlational research study was to investigate, describe, and measure factors influencing retention of nontraditional first and second year students at a university located in the Midwestern United States. Retention of adult students has become a major issue for many institutions of higher education and many…

Camilli, Gregory – Education and the Public Interest Center, 2009
According to a new study of Milwaukee public schools, student achievement has benefited from voucher-based school competition. A novel method, using geocoding, was proposed for measuring the degree of competition within the city of Milwaukee and, in turn, for determining whether such competition has increased or decreased the achievement of public…
