Thomson, Robert A. – Engineering Education, 1981
Describes the author's experience with a model structure used to demonstrate the difference between the idealized behavior predicted by theory and the actual behavior of a real structure. The model is a truss bridge with a span of 1.5 meters. (Author/SK)

Farmer, Nick A.; O'Hara, Michael P. – Database, 1980
Describes features of a new type of chemical database which provides the ability to search for substances sharing particular structural characteristics. Search concepts are examined in detail, and menu selection of "screens," system commands, and interpretation of results (which appear in the form of chemical bond structures) are…

Hansen, Vicki Lynn – Journal of Geological Education, 1990
Outlined is a method for collecting and cutting oriented samples for microstructural analysis including handling the samples in the laboratory, cutting and orienting chips parallel to the motion plane, and cutting and orienting chips normal to Le and foliation. (CW)

Garlick, George Donald; Jones, Francis Tucker – Journal of Geological Education, 1990
Presented is an interpretation of the inward and outward growth and formation of plume textured geodes available from southern Brazil. Field occurrence, morphology of vesicles, growth history, closure of the agate shell, microscopic features, coherent reflection of light from convoluted surfaces, and accessory minerals of the inner cavity are…

McCallister, Gary – Journal of College Science Teaching, 2005
The DNA triplet code also functions as a binary code. Because double-ring compounds cannot bind to double-ring compounds in the DNA code, the sequence of bases classified simply as purines or pyrimidines can encode for smaller groups of possible amino acids. This is an intuitive approach to teaching the DNA code. (Contains 6 figures.)

Zandler, Melvin E.; Talaty, Erach R. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1984
Provides a set of instructions for writing Lewis octet structures which incorporates a simple rule called the "6N+2 Rule." Discusses the importance of these structures in elementary chemistry, biochemistry, and organic chemistry courses. Also discusses non-octet structures and how they are characterized. (JM)

Wheeler, John J.; Carter, Stacy L.; Mayton, Michael R.; Thomas, Rebekah A. – Education and Training in Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, 2002
A brief structural analysis of instructional variables assessed levels of task engagement and self-aggression behavior in a seven-year- old child with multiple disabilities. Results indicated increased levels of task-engagement and reduced levels of self-aggression as stepwise changes in treatment components occurred, validating use of structural…
