This study indicates a discrepancy in the prefects' and students' perceptions of both the ideal and actual roles of the prefect. Such discrepancies decrease the effectiveness of the prefect. Members of a commune and members of a fraternity and a sorority were compared on measures of attitude and behavior. As predicted, commune residents demonstrated significantly more favorable attitudes toward non-traditional values. Also, the living arrangement of a commune may be more reinforcing toward within-group cooperation. (Author)
