Marcantonio, Tiffany L.; Jozkowski, Kristen N. – Sex Education: Sexuality, Society and Learning, 2023
Affirmative consent initiatives advocate that college students understand sexual consent and refusal. There has been an influx of research focused on students' definitions or understanding of consent; however, research examining students' definitions of sexual refusals is limited. Additionally, different terminology (e.g., non-consent vs. sexual…

Gorsline, Denise; Holl, Andrea; Pearson, Judy C.; Child, Jeffrey T. – College Student Journal, 2006
The colorful misbehavior of college students trumps considerations of college students' relationships with their families. With broad coverage of behaviors such as binge drinking, on-line gambling, and risky sexual behavior, the image of the college student is one of a person worrying about what time the bar opens, rather than problems at home.…

Maranell, Gary M.; And Others – J Marriage Fam, 1970
Tests Reiss' hypothesis that among conservatives those of higher social status are less permissive than those of lower status while among liberals the relationship is in the opposite direction. Both a chi-square test and a sign test were applied to the data; neither test confirmed Reiss' hypothesis. An extraordinarily strong relationship between…

Teevan, James J., Jr. – Journal of Marriage and Family, 1972
Conformity to peer expectations appears to be crucial in explaining premarital sexual activity and attitudes. Moreover, College students conform not only to their friends, but also to their age-mates in general. (Author)

McCormick, Naomi B. – Psychology of Women Quarterly, 1979
Male and female unmarried college students participated in a questionnaire study of actual and expected male-female differences in the use of strategies for having and avoiding sexual intercourse. Findings suggest that when men and women share the same goals, expected differences between male and female influencing agents disappear. (Author)

Jorgensen, Stephen R.; Sonstegard, Janet S. – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1984
Presents a test of the Fishbein model of behavior prediction applied to predict the pregnancy risk-taking behavior of adolescent females (N=244). Herting, Diane L.; And Others – 1988
Since the first case was identified in 1981, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) has become the number one health concern across the nation. Previous research has shown that AIDS has not had an effect on the sexual behavior of sexually active college students. Kirschner, Tammy J.; Sedlacek, William E. – 1983
There is a need for systematic comparisons and replications of research on questions concerning students' sexual behaviors and attitudes. To examine whether or not students' attitudes and behaviors toward sex and sex-related issues changed over a decade, 435 incoming freshmen in 1973 and 460 freshmen in 1983 were administered an anonymous…

Fromme, Rebecca E.; Emihovich, Catherine – Education and Urban Society, 1998
Perceptions of women, how those perceptions were formed, and ideas about how to improve the existing sexuality curriculum were studied with 17 young male college students. Findings indicate that continuing to teach sexuality in the context of male as predator and female as gatekeeper will only perpetuate the unhealthy egocentric behaviors many…

Pocs, Ollie; Godow, Annette G. – Family Coordinator, 1977
This research, based on approximately 650 college student questionnaires, suggests that it is difficult for youth to think of their parents as sexual beings. Students' estimates of their parents' sexual behavior disagreed significantly with research data on the sexual behavior of parent-age populations. (Author)

Sacco, William P.; And Others – 1991
Many heterosexuals have not altered their sexual practices in response to the threat of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Knowledge of risk alone appears to have little effect on altering sexual behavior; more complex psychological factors seem to be involved. Condom use to prevent the spread of Human Immunodeficiency Virus is a unique…

Marcotte, D. B.; And Others – Medical Education, 1977
Results from a sample of 160 medical and 79 law students revealed that medical students know less about sex and hold less tolerant views towards others' sexual behavior. Evidence of a double standard was not found, but the data reinforce the need for medical sex education to equip doctors with both knowledge and a tolerant attitude. (Author/LBH)
