Attitudes toward typical and ideal old age was investigated with 78 undergraduates. Half responded to semantic differentials for typical and ideal old age and half to middle age. Old and middle age objects were rated alike at ideal but old was rated less autonomous and instrumental at typical. (Author)

This study correlated Templer's Death Anxiety Scale among 65 college students with their attitudes and behaviors toward the elderly. There was no evidence for the anxiety-denial hypothesis that fear of aging and death results in repression of ideas associated with aging and with rejection of the elderly. (Author)

Adolescents' attitudes toward aged were positive, regardless of age. Contact with grand-parents and more positive attitudes were found in middle class compared to lower class, and among whites compared to nonwhites.
