An, Jiwoo; Poly, Laila-Parvin; Holme, Thomas A. – Journal of Chemical Education, 2020
In general chemistry laboratories, students learn practical laboratory skills through hands-on activities and are exposed to new scientific instruments. However, these instruments are often viewed as black boxes for various reasons, where students do not know how to use them or what the instruments are capable of. This tendency is likely to induce…

King, Nicola; Van der Touw, Thomas; Spowart, Lucy; Lawlor, Craig – European Journal of Science and Mathematics Education, 2016
There has been an increasing movement towards the introduction of inquiry based learning in undergraduate physiology laboratories. Students can however find this challenging when there is a sudden transition from traditional didactic practicals to full inquiry based activities. One reason for this could be the students' perceptions about the…

Okebukola, Peter Akinsola; Adeniyi, E. Ola – Journal of Educational Research, 1987
Examination of relationships between manner of utilization of human and material resources and secondary school students' achievement in and attitude toward science found that frequency of use of laboratory resources had highest positive correlation with achievement, followed by quality of use of laboratory resources. Quality of use of laboratory…

Ato, Tortiv; Wilkinson, William J. – Research in Science and Technological Education, 1986
Examines the influence of both teacher and pupil use of science equipment on Nigerian students' attitudes to science. Test results from students in 36 secondary schools indicated that schools making considerable use of science equipment, particularly with girls, were associated with more positive attitudes to many aspects of science.
