Awakening Consciousness: HESA Graduate Students' Perspectives on Consciousness-Raising Pedagogical Practices
Antonique Flood
Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, v62 n1 p13-25 2025
Despite incorporating diversity coursework into most higher education and student affairs (HESA) graduate programs, HESA graduate students report feeling underprepared to enact social justice work. Current pedagogical approaches introduce students to foundational concepts but fail to develop reflective, justice conscious administrators. This qualitative case study explores what pedagogical practices promote HESA graduate students' critical consciousness development during a diversity course.
