Damián López-González
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras (Puerto Rico)
Metacognition involves the monitoring, regulation, and evaluation of one's own cognitive processes and is known to enhance educational outcomes and retention in students (Bruin & Van Gog, 2012). This study assessed metacognitive practices among college students at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, by administering existing metacognitive questionnaires and conducting follow-up semi-structured interviews with a subset of participants. Through methods triangulation, the study sought to provide insights into the metacognitive characteristics of these students. The findings contribute to the limited field research on metacognition in Puerto Rico and indicate an adequate level of metacognitive awareness and responsiveness, with areas for improvement in sub-components such as evaluation.
