Understanding the Lived Experiences of International Students Studying in the United States
Sonela Demirazi
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
The purpose of this research study was to understand the lived experiences of international students on a higher education campus in the U.S. post-pandemic and uncover barriers they encounter navigating their academic programs. Twelve students from 9 different countries were the participants. The main finding of this phenomenological study is that international students want a better equipped International Office. The findings support current research that uncover barriers that international students encounter while pursuing an education in the U.S. If international students' needs are not being met, it could lead to a continued decline in enrollment. Higher education institutions should provide more comprehensive orientation for international students, and future research could explore the attitudes of stakeholders towards international students.
