Gender-diverse students face many barriers and stressors that contribute to suicidal behavior. This article reviews the risks and protective factors for youth suicide among gender-diverse youth and describes school practices that may promote protective factors. Although many school psychologists may be limited by laws and regulations that explicitly prohibit the incorporation of protective factors, they should strive to incorporate policies, practices, and training procedures that promote the factors that protect against suicidal behavior while limiting risk for these students.
