A 60-minute, color videotape of a simulated adult physical examination was produced and used by the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy to introduce clinical clerkship students to the procedures involved in the physical examination. A study sought to identify student characteristics which account for academic achievement in clinical pharmacy courses. Preclinical grade point average was the best predictor. Evaluative studies of experiential education in pharmacy are reviewed, and a holistic approach to evaluation, including a model, is presented. The conceptual model includes content analysis of the course material, and instruments for assessing cognitive and affective domains and analysis and application of skills. (SW)

Senior pharmacy students' perceptions prior to and after clinical experience were examined as they rated the occupations of BS pharmacist, PharmD pharmacist, physician, and nurse in one of three teaching hospitals in which the clinical course was conducted. A survey to assess the extent practitioners of pharmacy in the state of South Carolina are interested in pursuing a PharmD rather than professional master's degree and to determine if practitioners were willing to make some commitment to serving a full-time clerkship that would be required is discussed. Comparisons for Minnesota's class of 1977 supported the hypothesis that clinical pharmacy students become more receptive to pharmacy administrations skills and services as they gain clinical experience, especially in consultation services.
