Discussed in this article are the theoretical advantages and possible limitations of two recent trends in teacher education--internships and microteaching. Topics considered include the values of internship, supervision and analysis, and the overemphasis on technique. (EB)

Most teacher preparation classes are designed around the microteaching concept and focus on the "three T's": the teaching, talking, and terminating cycle. For an improvement in teaching skills, it is important for more than one teach/reteach cycle to be used. (JN)

Clinical settings are more important in teacher education than simply as arenas in which meaningful instruction behaviors are practiced. Training of teachers must be viewed as a process of induction into the classroom environment, in which the clients (students) work very powerfully on the trainees. (FG)
