Schiffler, Ludger – Rassegna Italiana di Linguistica Applicata, 1988
Four experiments, varying slightly in instructional method but all using the suggestopedic approach, confirmed that large amounts of second language vocabulary can be learned in a few hours. None of the experiments reached the vocabulary quantity of the Lozanov studies. The suggestopedic-corporal model was the most effective. (MSE)

Based on observations made in Bulgaria in the 1970s, it is proposed that the original version of Suggestopedia for second language training, used in Bulgaria and other Eastern European countries in the late 1960s and early 1970s, differs significantly from the techniques developed later, in particular in concentration on and memorization of…

Bancroft, W. Jane – 1995
It is argued that while Georgi Lozanov's suggestology and suggestopedic methods are informed by work in the field of suggestion in the former Soviet bloc, his work has also been influenced by work on suggestion in the west, particularly in France, where suggestion is a more controversial technique. Marcum, Karen – 1987
Suggestopedia, the psycholinguistic second language teaching methodology of Georgi Lozanov, has received both favorable and unfavorable evaluations from well-known scholars in the field of language learning. Some suspicious views by Western scholars may be due to the paucity of interpretable scientific evidence for the method's claims. An…

Liu, Dilin – TESOL Quarterly, 1995
This critique of an article by B. Kumaravadivelu argues that principles/strategies should not and cannot replace methods; it also takes issue with Kumaravadivelu's claim that his strategic framework is an alternative to, not simply an addition to, method. A reply by Kumaravadivelu is included. (Contains nine references.) (LR)
