Carlena JoAnn Parker
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Grand Canyon University
The purpose of the quantitative, correlational research study was to develop an understanding of the relationship between employee engagement, perceived organizational support, and turnover intention in elementary school teachers in the Northeastern region of the United States. Survey data were collected in the form of elementary teachers' responses to the Utrecht Work Engagement, The Survey of Perceived Organizational Support, the Turnover Intention Scale were used to address two research questions. The theory of organizational support model of support and well-being by Dr. Eisenberger formed to theoretical framework for the study. The researchers utilized descriptive statistics and the Spearman's rank order correlation to determine the relationship between the variables. Results indicated a statistically significant relationship between employee engagement and turnover intentions as perceived by teachers (r[subscript s] = -0.555, p < 0.01) and a statistically significant relationship between perceived organizational support and turnover intention as perceived by elementary teachers (r[subscript s] = -0.477, p < 0.01). School administrator and education policy makers may use the data from UWES-9, POS, and TIS-6, to expand retention efforts for elementary school teachers to understand stakeholders' perceptions about engagement, organizational support, and turnover intentions. There is more research on the topic recommended. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC. Further reproduction is prohibited without permission.
