Three problems affecting the use of a modified scree test in analyzing Delphi survey data are discussed: (1) the adequacy of the criterion; (2) the complexity of decision making; and (3) the nature of the Delphi panel. In a Delphi study of research needs in educational technology, 89 experts suggested 163 research needs. High-priority needs were identified by the Scree test--a method usually restricted to factor analysis. The usefulness of the technique for analysis of survey results suggests that it should be extended to other applications. (SLD)

A modified Delphi survey technique was used to delineate diagnoses, management techniques, and procedural skills in seven subspecialty areas necessary for house officers in a primary care internal medicine training program.
