This paper explores the interrelationship of syntax and semantics in two types of Verb-Verb construction in Mandarin, namely, resultative verb compounds and directional verb compounds. This paper attempts to show how a variety of phenomena in Chinese can be explained by means of a different approach to grammatical analysis.
