Arteaga, Pedro; Díaz-Levicoy, Danilo; Batanero, Carmen – Statistics Education Research Journal, 2021
The aim of this research was to describe the errors and reading levels that 6th and 7th grade Chilean primary school children reach when working with line graphs. To achieve this objective, we gave a questionnaire, previously validated by experts with two open-ended tasks, to a sample of 745 students from different Chilean cities. In the first…

Downton, Ann; Wright, Vince – Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia, 2016
This study explored the potential of a rich assessment task to reveal students' multiplicative thinking in respect to a hypothetical learning trajectory. Thirty pairs of students in grades 5 and 6 attempted the task. Twenty-two pairs applied multiplicative structure to find the number of items in arrays. However counting and computational errors…

Rotem, Avital; Henik, Avishai – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 2015
The current study examined the development of two effects that have been found in single-digit multiplication errors: relatedness and distance. Typically achieving (TA) second, fourth, and sixth graders and adults, and sixth and eighth graders with a mathematics learning disability (MLD) performed a verification task. Relatedness was defined by a…

Williams, Tannis MacBeth; And Others – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1976
A developmental reversal in accuracy was obtained for third and sixth graders and adults who judged class membership of patterns presented in a same-different task. Reversal accuracy appeared to result from an increase with age in orientation-free judgments. This hypothesis was confirmed in the subsequent two experiments. (GO)
