Peer reviewedClark, Peter; Rutter, Michael – Journal of Autism and Childhood Schizophrenia, 1977
The researchers explored factors related to negativism in 27 elementary age autistic children, where negativism was defined as the consistent avoidance of a correct response in a multiple choice discrimination task. (Author)
Descriptors: Autism, Discrimination Learning, Elementary Education, Negative Attitudes
Peer reviewedRatliff, Richard G. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1972
Major finding was that punishment presented in the same sensory modality as the reinforcement was superior to punishment presented in a different sensory modality from the reinforcement. (Author)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Discrimination Learning, Grade 3, Learning Modalities
Peer reviewedAnderson, Daniel R. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1972
Data were interpreted as suggesting that incidental learning may not be cumulative over trials, but rather, may be due to memory of the last trial. (Author)
Descriptors: Cues, Data Analysis, Discrimination Learning, Grade 2
Underwood, B. J. – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
Results of these experiments are evaluated in conjunction with the hypothesis that frequency information is a dominant attribute in recognition decisions. (Author/MB)

Peer reviewedSpiker, Charles C.; Cantor, Joan H. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1977
Kindergarten children were given simultaneous discrimination tasks with two irrelevant dimensions varying within settings. Prior to each block of feedback trials, the children were asked to provide a statement of the solution. The trial block on which the correct relevant dimension was first verbalized was found to be predictive of discrimination…

Peer reviewedKatz, Phyllis A. – Developmental Psychology, 1973
The prediction was confirmed that young children would experience more difficulty in learning to discriminate faces of another race than those of their own. Additional findings revealed that discrimination-learning performance with racial stimuli is related to a number of factors including developmental level, race of the subject, and race of the…

Schultz, Roger F.; Dodd, David H. – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
Experiments reported here confirm the finding that performance can actually improve as intradimensional variability increases. (Authors/MB)
Descriptors: Concept Formation, Data Analysis, Discrimination Learning, Performance Factors

Stevenson, Harold W.; And Others – Child Develop, 1970
Seventy-three subjects tested at grade 4 were retested at grade 7 on five tasks. In addition, 138 seventh graders were tested on these tasks for the first time. Using performance at grade 4 to predict performance on different tasks at grade 7 often was more satisfactory than using seventh-grade predictors. (Author/WY)
