The Adaptability of New Media and Communication Departments to Hybrid Media Systems: Evaluation of Curriculum and Instructor Qualifications
Muhammet Kemal Karaman1; Önder Deniz1
Journalism and Mass Communication Educator, v80 n3 p260-283 2025
This study explores how New Media and Communication departments in Turkey adapt to a hybrid media structure amid rapid digitalization. Blending traditional media with digital tools, these departments prepare students for dynamic communication environments through training in digital platforms, social media management, and content production. An analysis of the curricula from 36 departments and semi-structured interviews with academic staff revealed strengths and areas for improvement in designing hybrid education models. The findings inform recommendations for integrating hybrid media systems into educational programs, ensuring that curriculum and faculty expertise meet evolving media sector demands.
