Ladd, George T.; Andersen, Hans O. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1970
Descriptors: Achievement, Classroom Communication, Earth Science, Grade 9

Rowe, Mary Budd – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1974

Land, Michael L. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1981
Subjects (N=41) were randomly assigned to one of two groups defined by the teacher's clarity in a genetics lesson: low-clarity versus high-clarity. Subjects rated lesson presentation and completed a test on content. The high-clarity group perceived lessons as significantly clearer and achieved more than the low-clarity group. (DS)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Classroom Communication, College Science, Higher Education

Trindade, Arnold L. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1972
Predictions from Anderson's theories of structured communication were tested in grade eitht biology classes. Students given verbal instruction with a high degree of structure performed better on acquisition tests than students receiving less structured lessons. (AL)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Biology, Classroom Communication, Grade 8

Vinelli, Jose L.; And Others – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1979
Studies the effects of student-structured (SSLS) and teacher-structured (TSLS) teaching strategies. SSLS students consistently exhibited lower frequencies of teacher dependency behaviors than TSLS students. Need affiliation results varied with the grade level of students. (MA)
Descriptors: Affiliation Need, Classroom Communication, Educational Research, Experiential Learning
