Technostress and Its Influence on Instructors' Technology Use
Sarah T. Zipf; Tehniyet Azam; Chuaho Wu
Journal on Excellence in College Teaching, v36 n2 p69-88 2025
Technostress--or the constant connection, disruption, distraction, and need to learn caused by new technology--can make instructors feel overwhelmed, tired, or disengaged, impacting their ability to teach. As institutions continue to invest resources for growing their technology portfolios, the authors investigated how instructor technostress impacted their use of instructional technology. Overall, they found that most instructors surveyed had low levels of technostress and would learn how to use new technologies if they perceived them to be useful and to make their work easier. The authors conclude that institutions should work to build a technology-rich culture to support their instructors.
