Most Texas foreign language teachers teach one or more additional fields. Spanish has the highest proportion of teachers assigned to a single field. Only 30 percent of French, German, and Latin teachers teach a single language. The author shows that there is considerable variety in teaching field combinations in a 1969-70 report. (SC)

This is a study done in 1973-74 through questionnaires sent to recent Ph.D.s in comparative literature and to potential employers. Questions were asked regarding the kinds of teaching positions held, if they were held, the type of institution, the permanency of the job, and the informants' subjective evaluation of the job. (SC)

The Nebraska Language Information Placement Service found that in that area foreign language teachers should be able to teach at least one other subject, not necessarily a language, for job opportunities. Flexibility in teaching is needed. Most openings exist in rural communities. (SC)
