Creating Change through Politics: Two Viewpoints
Frawley, Thomas A.; Janosz, David A., Jr.
Technology Teacher, v66 n8 p21-27 May-Jun 2007
This article presents two viewpoints on creating change through politics. Frawley argues that every teacher can be an agent for change at the local level by first changing the way they think about the profession and embracing the concept that they need to take part in the conversation. Change will happen when technology teachers take greater ownership of the issues, invest their time and energy in advancing their profession, and begin cultivating advocates and honing networking skills. On the other hand, Janosz relates some lessons he learned in bringing some legislative attention to technology education at the state level. It helps to know the backgrounds of some individual legislators. Legislators with connections to technology, engineering, business, and education may be more helpful or more likely to champion a related issue.
