ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Dallas Baptist University
The current study, a mixed-method study, examined workplace spirituality, teacher efficacy, and job placement as predictors of grit in 95 Christian teachers. The current study found significant correlations between grit and spirituality, grit and efficacy, and between efficacy and spirituality, with workplace spirituality being a strong predictor of grit. The multiple regression model (Grit = 1.614 + 0.314 [Spirituality] + 0.075 [Efficacy] - 0.087 [Placement]) accounted for 22% of the variance in teacher grit (R[superscript 2] = 0.222), reflecting a medium effect size. Teachers in religious schools showed higher spirit at work, attributed to a supportive community and shared faith-based vision. Using open-ended questions on an online survey, the current study investigated teachers' perceptions regarding examples of faith integration, supportive structures, barriers, and benefits of incorporating faith at work. The themes--Routine, Perspective, Mission, and Value--illustrate how faith integration is not just a theoretical concept but a lived experience embedded in daily practices and interactions. Faith integration influenced how Christian educators approach teaching, decision-making, relationships, and overall personal conduct within educational settings. Overall, workplace spirituality emerged as a key predictor of grit, suggesting that both secular and religious schools can benefit from fostering spiritual practices to enhance teacher resilience.
