The activities of AAUP's Committee A during 1978-79 centered on the problems of financing and tenure, including a statement on academic freedom and due process for faculty members forced into early retirement. The disposition of specific cases handled by the committee are outlined. (JMF)

To make more tenured faculty positions available to young professors, a proposal that requires tenured professors to vacate their positions when they reach the age of 60 is presented. The financial implications of this proposal and possible roles for senior faculty are discussed. (SF)
