Retirement Project: Giving Back to NASP and the Children's Fund
Jasiunas, Bonnie
Communique, v41 n3 p1, 38 Nov 2012
After more than 36 years as a teacher and school psychologist, the author decided that it was time for her to retire at the end of last school year (2011-2012). She spent her career as school psychologist trying to make a difference in the lives of the children and families that she served. But before she retired her WISC test kit, stopwatch, and computer scoring programs, she wanted to complete one more project to demonstrate the power of giving back. She decided to do a Retirement Project as a way of giving back and honoring her years as a school psychologist. She asked her friends and colleagues who wished to honor her career to contribute to the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) Children's Fund. The response to her Retirement Project was overwhelming. Her hope was that the contributions would reach $500, but when the treasurer of the NASP Children's Fund, Juliette Madigan, sent her the list of donations totaling more than $3,275, she was completely and pleasantly surprised. She began to think that this would be a wonderful project for all retiring school psychologists to give back to NASP by donating to the Children's Fund.
