A simulation project is described in which graduate nursing students learned about curriculum development, not through a traditional lecture/discussion course, but by assuming faculty roles themselves. It's not enough to learn the skills, faculty members discovered; they had to develop, internalize, and learn to project a different kind of role model for their students. In this document, eight teaching approaches are outlined, and the difficulties involved in role change for both students and faculty are explored. (Author)

In order to maintain both the quality of student learning and client care as well as make effective use of faculty time, agency staff nurses were used as student preceptors. The nurses visit with students to demonstrate techniques and participate in the care students give their patients. (CT)
