Wagner, William S. – Physics Teacher, 1991
Two different methods of measuring the temperature of an incandescent lamp at various voltage levels are described. By observing the color produced at a particular voltage levels, the lamp's color as a function of temperature can be determined. Needed equipment include a variac, a voltmeter, and an ammeter. (KR)

Ormiston-Smith, Helen – Physics Teacher, 1991
Suggests using poetry such as James Maxwell's "To the Chief Musician upon Nabla: A Tyndallic Ode" as a vehicle for learning physics. Discusses the physics concepts alluded to in the verses of the poem. (MDH)
Descriptors: Electricity, Heat, High Schools, Integrated Activities

Lamb, William G. – Science Teacher, 1984
Recommends using dramatic demonstrations on the energy in chemical systems as an audiovisual adjunct to lectures and laboratory sessions. Lists materials needed and provides procedures including safety tips for various experiments to produce chemical light, heat, and electricity; and concludes with hints for preparation/rehearsal. (JM)

Kolb, Doris, Ed. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1989
Presents two demonstrations using the overhead projector: (1) describes how to build a projecting voltmeter and presents uses for the classroom; and (2) investigates the color of fluorescent solutions by studying the absorption and transmission of light through the solutions. (MVL)
