Bauer, J.; And Others – American Journal of Physics, 1971
Describes the structure of a set of computer programs (DITRAN) that translate the text of conversational exchanges appropriate for elementary physics discussions into an operational computer-based dialog. Dialogs produced in this manner are designed as a series of templated subprograms. The structure of a simple template is reviewed. (Author/TS)

Lough, Tom – Physics Teacher, 1986
Discusses how LOGO programing language is used in physics teaching at Piedmont Virginia Community College in West Virginia. Also: (1) considers the characteristics of the language which make it attractive in physics teaching; (2) lists sample programs; (3) offers instructional strategies; and (4) presents student reactions. (JN)

Descriptors: Astronomy, College Science, Computer Assisted Instruction, Instruction

Donato, Henry, Jr.; And Others – Journal of Chemical Education, 1988
Describes two computer programs used to aid in data analysis: (1) Develops a method for the propagation of error involving the direct calculation of the error in the dependent variable using a spreadsheet; (2) Examines a simple numerical method for solving complex equilibria. Lists a FORTRAN 77 program. (MVL)

Gleeson, Ronald F. – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1989
Presented are three computer projects: vector analysis, electric field intensities at various distances, and the Biot-Savart law. Programing suggestions and project results are provided. One month is suggested for each project. (MVL)
Descriptors: College Science, Computer Oriented Programs, Computer Uses in Education, Course Descriptions

Lopez, Antonio M., Jr. – Mathematics and Computer Education, 1989
Provides background material on logic programing and presents PROLOG as a high-level artificial intelligence programing language that borrows its basic constructs from logic. Suggests the language is one which will help the educator to achieve various goals, particularly the promotion of problem solving ability. (MVL)
Descriptors: Artificial Intelligence, College Science, Computer Science, Computer Science Education

Lough, Tom; Tipps, Steve – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1988
Discusses chaotic behavior (movement) in a nonlinear system using LOGO programs. Presents several examples with program listings. (MVL)
Descriptors: Chaos Theory, College Science, Computer Graphics, Computer Oriented Programs

Albee, David; Jones, Edward – Journal of Chemical Education, 1989
Discusses the use of computers in chemistry courses at the United States Military Academy. Provides two examples of computer projects: (1) equations of state, and (2) solving for molar volume. Presents BASIC and PASCAL listings for the second project. Lists 10 applications for physical chemistry. (MVL)
Descriptors: Chemical Nomenclature, Chemistry, College Science, Computer Software

Audi, M. S. – Engineering Design Graphics Journal, 1987
Suggests a method of integrating teaching microcomputer graphics in engineering curricula without encroaching on the fundamental engineering courses. Includes examples of engineering graphics produced by commercial programs and others produced by high-level language programing in a limited credit hour segment of an educational program. (CW)
Descriptors: College Science, Computer Graphics, Computer Software, Computer Uses in Education

Morris, J. Richard; Bass, Barbara D. – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1989
Describes a summer graduate level course at Virginia Commonwealth University for mathematics teachers. Notes that the purpose of the course was to allow the teachers access to software usable in their classrooms, and to have teachers program in BASIC and use word processing programs. (MVL)
Descriptors: College Science, Computer Oriented Programs, Computer Science Education, Computer Software

Baird, William E. – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1989
Provides selected abstracts from the Computers in Physics Instruction conference held on August 1-5, 1988. Topics include: wave and particle motion, the CT programing language, microcomputer-based laboratories, student written simulations, concept maps, summer institutes, computer bulletin boards, interactive video, and videodisks. (MVL)

Redish, Edward F., Ed.; Risley, John S., Ed. – 1990
Computers are revolutionizing activities in all areas of life. Physics researchers, accustomed to being at the forefront of technology, have been deeply affected by the computer revolution. This effect has serious implications for what is taught and how it is taught in the physics classroom. This conference was organized to allow physics teachers…
