Fautley, Martin; Daubney, Alison – British Journal of Music Education, 2022
This article considers the impact that the Swanwick-Tillman spiral article (Swanwick & Tillman, 1986) has had on contemporary thinking in music education in England. Building on a discussion concerning the antecedents of the notion of a spiral, the ways in which a generalist music curriculum can be planned and organised are discussed. Drawing…

Toker, Sacip – Education and Information Technologies, 2022
This study investigates the association between instructional design projects and 21st-Century skills. A causal-comparative design was utilised. The participants were 85 computer education and instructional technology department students who registered for a core instructional design course. The participants are divided into two groups: Rapid…

Tarigan, Hendra Jaya – Physics Teacher, 2022
We describe here a low-cost experiment for introductory physics students where they compare the physical properties of aluminum and steel by means of cantilever oscillations. This, in turn, allows the students to improve their physical intuition about these materials. Further, the students can apply their physics and mathematics knowledge and…

Dede, Hülya – International Journal of Progressive Education, 2022
This study aims to evaluate the STEM SOS model based on the opinions of pre-service science teachers. For this aim, the contributions and the challenges of the STEM SOS model to pre-service science teachers were investigated. The participants consisted of 23 pre-service science teachers studying in the 4th grade of science teaching at a state…

Vieira, Leonardo Pereira; Aguiar, Carlos Eduardo – Physics Education, 2022
The udu is a traditional Nigerian percussion instrument that can be thought of as a Helmholtz resonator with two apertures. We use a simple two-particle mechanical analogue to study the behaviour of such a resonator and find that the model describes quite well the main features of udu acoustics.

Karina Nuñez-Gutierrez; Camilo Andrés Rodríguez-Nieto; Lisseth Correa-Sandoval; Vicenç Font Moll – International Electronic Journal of Mathematics Education, 2025
The variational thinking of high school students based on mathematical connections was analyzed through a laboratory on linear functions. This qualitative research based on design was developed in three phases: diagnostic test, implementation of the mathematics laboratory and final test, with students from a public institution in Barranquilla,…

Salvatore G. Garofalo – Journal of Science Education and Technology, 2025
The initial learning experience is a critical opportunity to support conceptual understanding of abstract STEM concepts. Although hands-on activities and physical three-dimensional models are beneficial, they are seldom utilized and are replaced increasingly by digital simulations and laboratory exercises presented on touchscreen tablet computers.…

Yongsheng Rao; Ruiyao Yin; Ruxian Chen; Jing Li; Yuanhua Chen – Education and Information Technologies, 2025
Mathematical abstraction constitutes the foundational cornerstone for the establishment and evolution of mathematical disciplines, serving as the pathway through which mathematical concepts emerge. As one of the information technologies widely applied in mathematics education, the Dynamic Mathematics Systems (DMS) have been found to have a…

Eunhye Flavin; Matthew T. Flavin – Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12, 2025
A sense of belonging in mathematics--feeling accepted and valued in the field (Good et al., 2012)--is a powerful predictor of student success. However, many students, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds, often lack this feeling as a result of limited representation in curricula and school cultures (Barbieri & Miller-Cotto, 2021).…

Kun Wang – International Journal of Web-Based Learning and Teaching Technologies, 2025
This study investigates the development and implementation of a big data-driven English ecological classroom teaching model, aiming to reform university English instruction in alignment with contemporary technological advancements. The conventional teaching framework, often limited to textbooks and in-class activities, has been shown to…

Sarah J. Kaka; Ryan Suskey; Lauren M. Colley – Social Studies and the Young Learner, 2025
Micro-inquiries are a streamlined adaptation of the Inquiry Design Model (IDM) and C3 Framework that break down rich, meaningful content and skill explorations into short lessons that teachers can include in "less" than a single lesson. Recognizing that full IDM implementations can be time-consuming and challenging for elementary…

Pastore, A.; Romero, A. M.; Diget, C.; Rios, A.; Leech, K.; Stokoe, P. – Physics Education, 2021
We present a simple activity based on the liquid-drop model which allows secondary school students to explore the uses of mathematical models and gain an intuitive understanding of the concept of binding energy, and in particular the significance of positive binding energy. Using spreadsheets provided as supplementary material, students can…
