Presents the Decision-Making Process Model, a framework for working through questions that require action. The seven steps are identifying the decision; determining why it is needed; identifying alternatives; analyzing information; estimating practicality; and deciding on a conclusion. With rejection of the traditional normative conception of educational foundations, the intellectual basis for teaching students human values or aims has been eliminated. Teacher education programs that overemphasize value-neutral facts and narrowly defined methods are criticized. The Paideia Proposal is a possible alternative. (PP)

A decision story is a brief scenario describing a health problem which might be faced in real life. Such topics as venereal disease, drug use, and nutrition can be explored by use of the decision-making model. The phases involved in processing the decision story strategy are described. (JN)

An analysis is proposed which reduces the concept of imagination to certain logically distinct forms and modes of imagining. This analysis is related to contemporary definitions of the educated person. Moral education is not included in the curriculum, but the history of Chile shows the influence of European culture. Therefore a philosophy of education which promotes an autonomous human being has usually underlined educational policy. The development of Scarborough's Values Education Project is described. The advantages and disadvantages of three reflective teaching methods: values clarification, Kohlberg's cognitive-moral development, and Allen's problem-solving approach, are outlined, and Scarborough's synthesis is discussed.
