An Examination of Faculty Rank and Tenure Status as It Relates to Job Satisfaction and Professional Growth
Gina Capitano
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
This study explored the extent to which faculty job satisfaction varied by faculty rank and tenure status. 118 Faculty members with varying ranks and tenure statuses from four higher education institutions participated in the study. Surveys were utilized to collect results. Descriptive statistics, and one-way ANOVAs, were utilized to analyze significance. The results showed no significance between tenured and non-tenured (NTT) faculty in overall satisfaction. The overall satisfaction levels of faculty respondents with the rank of Instructor were significantly higher than the overall satisfaction levels of faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor. There was not a significant difference between tenured and NTT faculty satisfaction with opportunities for professional growth.
