Granena, Gisela – Studies in Second Language Acquisition, 2019
This study investigated the underlying structure of a set of eight cognitive tests from the two most recent language aptitude test batteries: the LLAMA (Meara, 2005) and the Hi-LAB (Linck et al., 2013) to see whether they had any underlying constructs in common. The study also examined whether any of the observed constructs could predict L2…

Cormier, Damien C.; Bulut, Okan; Singh, Deepak; Kennedy, Kathleen E.; Wang, Kun; Heudes, Alethea; Lekwa, Adam J. – Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, 2018
The selection and interpretation of individually administered norm-referenced cognitive tests that are administered to culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) students continue to be an important consideration within the psychoeducational assessment process. Understanding test directions during the assessment of cognitive abilities is…

Williams, Marian E.; Sando, Lara; Soles, Tamara Glen – Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, 2014
Cognitive assessment of young children contributes to high-stakes decisions because results are often used to determine eligibility for early intervention and special education. Previous reviews of cognitive measures for young children highlighted concerns regarding adequacy of standardization samples, steep item gradients, and insufficient floors…

Anderson, Zola; And Others – 1983
The study examined the effect of test modifications on the performance of 10 handicapped preschoolers on the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale (Form L-M). Adaptations of both stimulus and response modes were designed and constructed for subtests at the preschool levels on the Stanford-Binet. Attempts were made to maintain the functional…

Guttman, Louis; Levy, Shlomit – Intelligence, 1991
Two structural laws for intelligence tests are discussed: one law concerns the sign of correlation coefficients and gives conditions under which all correlations between test items will be positive; and one law concerns the relative sizes of the correlation coefficients between intelligence items. A cylindrical structure extends these laws. (SLD)

King, Lynda A.; King, Daniel W. – Psychology in the Schools, 1982
Describes the three major strategies for development of Wechsler Scales short forms. Presents an overview of the available validity data. Offers recommendations for future validity research. Concludes that while Wechsler short forms may be useful as research instruments, their clinical applications are extremely limited. (Author)

Putnam, Lillian R. – Journal of Reading, 1986
Criticizes the Detroit Tests of Learning Aptitude 2 (DLTA-2): (1) scoring criteria for the Story Construction Test are questionable; (2) the Word Fragment Test may not be practically significant; (3) the Picture Book is inconvenient to use without an index or table of contents. One major strength is the provision for combining subtest scores. (SRT)

Legree, Peter J.; Martin, Daniel E.; Psotka, Joseph – Intelligence, 2000
Developed five knowledge tests and one implicit reasoning test designed to be short, correlated with cognitive aptitude, unobtrusive, and capable of administration in computer, e-mail, or paper-and-pencil forms. Administered these tests to 288 Air Force recruits and validated them against the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. Results…

Jacobs, Stanley S. – 1994
This study analyzed and tested the equivalence of Forms A and B of the California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST). In designing the CCTST, Form A was composed of 34 items from a bank of 200. To develop a parallel measure, Form B was developed by rewriting 28 of the 34 items and rearranging their order. Study participants were all entering…

Johnson, Nancy E.; And Others – Assessment, 1994
Development of an alternate form of Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices Test is described. Reliability analysis with 449 children of differing racial/ethnic backgrounds showed good reliability and comparable predictive validity. The alternate form is a promising research tool. (SLD)

Embretson, Susan E. – Measurement: Interdisciplinary Research and Perspectives, 2004
The last century was marked by dazzling changes in many areas, such as technology and communications. Predictions into the second century of testing are seemingly difficult in such a context. Yet, looking back to the turn of the last century, Kirkpatrick (1900), in his American Psychological Association presidential address, presented fundamental…
